2014 is going to be a great year! Hi there, I'm Tracy and I'm a busy Mumpreneur. I have two boys, 3 1/2yo Daniel and 20mo Jayden, and I'm also the owner of Squoodles, an online store specialising in educational toys and gifts for kids.
Juggling kids and a business is definately a challenge, and both have rewards and downsides. The plan when we launched in May 2013 was to work 'part-time' and still be a parent. I'm now not so sure that's possible! You're constantly juggling two little boys wanting to play, learn and have fun, with your third baby, the business - which also needs nurturing, growth, and hand holding. Both are demanding, but in different ways. At least I don't have to toilet train Squoodles!
I think the key to successfully juggling work and family is to have a good support network. I'm lucky that I have a supportive husband who doesn't mind looking after the boys while I take a day out of the weekend to spend working at a market or expo - and then there is also Nana and Grandad available if we both have to attend a meeting or event.
I don't think the boys suffer too much. They get to have playdates, and spend time with people who, to be honest, probably pay them more attention than I do when I'm at home. Because even when you work from home, there is still the 'other' stuff to do, like laundry, dinners, emptying diswashers, tidying the house - and of course, most importantly, spending some quality relationship time with your husband.
And to be honest, I love working. I love dealing with customers, sourcing new products, having fun on social media sites, meeting people at the markets - and all the things that come with running a business. It helps to be organised and plan everything in advance. I have everything written out on a yearly planner, as well as a daily planner too (can't help myself).
2014 is going to be a great year. A year of growth, fun and learning for both the boys, the company, and my marriage. So jump on board the Squoodle Bug train...... I'd love to have you along for the ride!
